UC HEALTH CLINICS

The UC Health Clinics are a collection of Student-Led Clinics across the Faculty of Health, which provide fundamental clinical placements to allied health students to facilitate work readiness. The clinics consists of the following allied health disciplines;

Clinical Psychology;
Counselling;
Exercise Physiology (Cancer - Musculoskeletal -Cardio-metabolic);
Nutrition & Dietetics;
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy;
Neurological Physiotherapy;
Occupational Therapy;
Optometry

UC CANCER WELLNESS CLINIC

The UC Cancer Wellness Clinic provides allied health students from Exercise Physiology, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Counselling, a unique and valuable placement experience to help support cancer patients and survivors to improve their physical function and quality of life. In addition to supporting students and offering supportive cancer care services to the community, the UC Cancer Wellness clinic is a research centre of excellence with the support of PACES (Prehabilitation, Activity, Cancer, Exercise, Survivorship) research group.

UC Cancer Wellness Clinic

Throughout the placement, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with students from the same discipline as well as from other disciplines to increase their knowledge and understanding of their role in a multi-disciplinary treatment team in cancer care. Students will be supervised and guided by discipline and non-discipline specific Clinical Supervisors to facilitate learning and work readiness.

Currently we offer the following Exercise Oncology services in-clinic (F2F) and remotely (TeleHealth). Services include:

CLINIC OVERVIEW

Referral: To access the clinic services, clients will require a referral from their treating General Practitioner or Medical Specialist/Nurse/Treating team. Referrals will be accepted in soft or hard copy format. A client may schedule an initial consultation without the possession of a referral however the referral must be presented upon arrival at the initial appointment.

Initial Consultation: The initial appointment is a multi-disciplinary (MD) allied health consultation form where a student from any discipline will collect information about the client’s presenting medical condition(s), treatment history, medications, needs, abilities, support network and physical functioning/health/exercise goals. Obtaining this information will facilitate the development of a clinically necessary treatment plan and provide prompt inter-clinic referrals. It is important during this consultation to discuss the service delivery pathway for each client (i.e., number and frequency of 1:1 EP sessions, development of a home-exercise program (HEP) with frequency of review appointments, pathway into group-based exercise programs). All decisions around provision of services must be discussed with your Clinical Supervisor.

Cost: FREE The cost of an initial consultation is covered by the generous donation from Capital Chemist. ($60 standard consultation, $55 concession card holders)
