This module focuses on motivational interviewing .

Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based counselling technique used to assist people to make change in their lives. It is a person-centred approach which aims to enhance people's motivation to change and to empower their efforts. There are six resources in this module.

The first is a short article by Stephen Rollnick & William R. Miller which provides an overview of motivational interviewing.

The second resource is a video by Dr Joel Porter which provides an introduction to motivational interviewing.

This is followed by the third resource, which is a short article by Christine Bundy exploring the technique in a little more detail.

The next resource, number four, is a video demonstrating motivational interviewing techniques with Joel Porter and our consumer Arianwen.

In resource five, Arianwen reflects on the experience of having motivational interviewing practised on her.

The sixth and final resource in this section is a video by Joel Porter in which he introduces us to the use of motivational interviewing techniques on groups.
